Beginning as an alternative instrument aimed at promoting equitable welfare distribution, the sharia economy and finance industry has transformed into one of the key drivers of Indonesia’s economic growth. As the country with the world’s largest Muslim population, Indonesia is recognized globally as a ‘sleeping giant,’ holding vast potential and opportunities to become a major player in the global economy, particularly in the sharia economy and finance sectors. In light of this significant potential, Bank Indonesia, as the central bank, seeks to make a tangible contribution to the development of sharia economy and finance in Indonesia, including through the organization of the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) since 2014.
